Gay/Bash returns to Black Cat Saturday

Black Cat (1811 14th St., N.W.) presents Gay/Bash featuring Heidi Glum and Rumor Millz with special guest Severely Mame Saturday at 10 p.m.

Mame, who is from Brooklyn, was in Sharon Needles’s music video “Call Me on the Ouija Board.” The performances will be mixed with a blend of alternative, new wave, teen-pop and punk-rock music by DJ Joshua and DJ Dean Sullivan from Cobalt’s “Bearzerk.”

Performances are at 11:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. Cover charge is $5. The event is open for all ages. For more details, visit

Capital Pride and Brightest Young Things host “Spandex: The Official Capital Pride Superhero Party” tonight at 9 p.m. at the newly restored Wonder Bread Factory (641 S St., N.W.).

The event features multiple floors of dancing and entertainment. Sharon Needles from “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and hip-hop artist Rye Rye are the headlining performers.

Phase 1 (525 8th St., S.E.) hosts “ShockTart,” a new monthly alternative LGBT dance party, starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday night. The party is organized by D.C.’s own “interactive discopunk” band Glitterlust, which performed at the sold-out “Spandex” party hosted by Brightest Young Things and Capital Pride.

Performances by a variety of avant-garde artists will begin at 9 p.m. London goth/glam band The Nancy Boys and Heidi Glum, drag daughter of Sharon Needles, are among the evening’s performers.

The DJs will spin an assortment of experimental, underground and indie dance beats. Guests will be given art supplies and musical instruments at the door to participate in spontaneous art and are also encouraged to bring their own. Though the event is at Phase 1, it is not lesbian-exclusive. It’s geared toward the entire LGBT crowd.

Tickets are $10 at the door.

Drag groundbreaker Sharon Needles releases her debut album “PG-13″ Tuesday along with her first music video for the song “This Club is a Haunted House.”

Described as an “eerie, somewhat chilling mix of fright-inducing punk and emotional catharsis,” the album is said to a dancy pop-punch feel.

The tracks are:

Needles wrote all the material and says the title is a reference to “this vapid industry” where “life succeeds only in compromise.”

RuPaulAmanda LeporeAna Matronic of the Scissor Sisters, and punk rock legend Jayne County contribute everything from humor to rap, while partner Alaska from season five of Logo TV’s “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” premiering its new season tonight, rounds out this starring lineup, with striking album art by Austin Young, a Los Angeles based artist and celebrity photographer. Young has worked with Amy PoehlerDebbie Harry, and Margaret Cho. Look for the video tonight on Logo at 6 p.m. and midnight.

Town (2009 8th St., N.W.)  presents “A Nightmare Before Xmas with Sharon Needles” Saturday night with a special meet and greet at 9 p.m. and the show at 10:30.

Needles is a drag performer known for her ghoulish gothic style. She came to fame in the fourth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” where she was crowned “America’s Next Drag Superstar.”

Tickets for the meet and greet are limited and are $50. Admission to the show is $12. For more information, visit
